Backcountry Access (BCA) Campaign
High-alpine action sports photography and deep winter narrative capture for Backcountry Access (BCA), the most trusted name in backcountry safety gear.
The Assignment
Backcountry Access (BCA), the industry leader in avalanche safety equipment, required visceral, high-impact imagery for a print campaign in Backcountry Magazine. The objective was to highlight their critical safety gear (beacons, shovels, probes, and Float airbags) in its natural, unforgiving environment, featuring professional athlete Chris Yelverton navigating demanding alpine conditions.
Chris Yelverton captured pushing BCA gear in deep avalanche terrain.
The Execution
Executing commercial photography in severe winter environments is a specialized discipline. The challenge was not just lighting and composition, but logistics—hauling heavy camera systems through deep snow alongside Chris Yelverton. Managing temperature fluctuations that drain batteries instantly and precisely timing Chris's descents required intense preparation. Every frame had to confidently showcase the BCA safety gear serving its purpose at the extreme edge of the sport.
The Result
The resulting imagery provided Backcountry Access with a dynamic, high-contrast visual anchor for their print campaign. Featuring Chris Yelverton's authentic riding style, the primary action frames were selected for their raw kinetic energy and uncompromised representation of true backcountry conditions—cementing BCA's position as the most trusted name in backcountry safety.
